Description

Boucherouite Rug

In the rural areas of the High Atlas, where sheep wool is rare, women artisans collect unused fabrics (nylon, cotton, synthetics, etc.) and then weave them together to create their rugs. Boucherouite means “rag” in Berber. An amazing contrast between the poverty of the material and the artistic richness of the finished rug. A recycling technique that goes far beyond the simple assembly of recycled fabrics, it is a worldwide craze that is created around the technique boucherouite.

The creativity of these rugs is limitless! The craftswomen weave without sketches, following their instinct. The Boucherouite rug is made in a spontaneous way. This is what gives each piece a sensitivity, authenticity and creativity without equal.

The Boucherouite rug quickly became a collector’s treasure. Some Berber rugs can be found in large art galleries.

The symbols, the mix of colors and the creative patterns of a Boucherouite rug bring a touch of cheerfulness in living rooms. It is also often presented as wall decoration to beautify the space.

Our engagements

Our engagements

At Anwa ‘Origin, we highlight the know-how and limitless creativity of the Berber tribes. All our pieces are handmade by artists, these artisan women present in our small family cooperative in Morocco.

Our “Vintage” rugs are they, unearthed directly in the Berber villages of the Middle Atlas. Rugs considered to be true works of art, rare and unique pearls steeped in history.

Each step in the production of a rug is designed to preserve our environment: the wool is 100% local, it comes from Moroccan producers. No chemicals are used in the processing of wool.

Other fabrics that can be used such as cotton, nylon, synthetic materials etc. are 100% recycled . Finally, the colorful patterns of the rugs are made from 100% vegetal dyes, which have been carefully chosen in order to last over time and to offer you the best possible quality.

Care

Care

To maintain your rug in a sustainable way, the vacuum cleaner remains your best ally .

A new rug tends to lose its surplus wool fibers. It is a completely natural phenomenon and a sign of quality. Your rug is new, it can lose its little excess material during the first months.

To maintain your rug, we have selected you the best tips from our grandmother Majo, installed in Morocco for 20 years. They are easy to make and consist mainly of natural products. Otherwise, we recommend that you go to a professional to clean your rug.
